Aquatic Center

The Grinnell Mutual Family Aquatic Center is located at 120 8th Avenue West (map). It is open during the summer months when school is not in session. The phone number is 641-236-2621.

Lap Swim*


  • 6 am - 8 am Monday through Friday
  • 7 am -9 am Saturday
  • 11:30 am - 12:30 pm Sunday through Saturday
  • 1 pm - 3 pm & 4 pm - 6 pm Sunday through Saturday Lap Lanes Only

*Lap swim time is reserved for those age 16 and older to swim laps or walk against the current of the lazy river. Lap swim times are to be reserved in one-hour increments. Patrons are limited to four lap time reservations per week unless there is an open slot on the current day. 



Recreation Swim*


  • 1 pm - 3 pm Monday through Sunday
  • 4 pm - 6 pm Monday through Sunday
*Recreation swim times are to be reserved in two-hour increments. Patrons are limited to two recreation swim reservations per week unless there is an open slot on the current day. If registering for a family, each family member must have their own reservation.

All children 13 years of age and younger must have direct supervision by someone who is at least 16 years old. Someone who is 16 years of age or older can supervise up to four children. 

All patrons are expected to get their swim in and be out of the facility within the time frame of their reservation. 

Reservations can be made online at grinnellrec.activity.com by clicking register for activities or by calling the Recreation Department at 641-236-2620 during office hours. Time slots may also be reserved by calling the Aquatic Center at 641-236-2621 during operating hours. Upon paid admittance to the facility each person will need to confirm with the cashier they are signed up for the time slot they have reserved.  If the time slot was reserved within 24 hours a receipt of the time slot will need to be presented either by hard copy or electronically. 

Hours are subject to change based on proclamations by Governor Reynolds. 
Due to the continuing Covid-19 pandemic the following requirements are in place for Grinnell Mutual Family Aquatic Center patrons:

  • Physical distance of six feet from other patrons outside of their immediate family.
  • We highly recommend showing up to the facility ready to swim and leaving in your swimwear.
  • If you are feeling ill or have the following signs or symptoms you will not be permitted into the facility:
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fever
    • Chills
    • Muscle Pain
    • Sore Throat
    • New loss of taste or smell
  • If you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 or has shown symptoms of Covid-19 please do not come to the facility for 14 days after contact.
  • Please use proper hygiene methods by washing hands and/or using hand sanitizer. We recommend use of a mask outside the water.
  • Only one person/family will be permitted to enter the reception area at a time.
  • All children 13 and younger must have direct supervision by someone who is at least 16 years old.
  • No use of deck chairs, bleachers, or concession area.
    • Patrons encouraged to use their personal towel for seating.
  • No Rope Water walk this season.
  • No use of facility kickboards, life jackets, water weights, and toys.
  • No Concession Stand until further notice.
    • No outside food permitted (water bottles are acceptable)
  • All facility rules, protocols, and procedures must be followed. Any patron who does not follow guidelines will be asked to leave.
