The owner of any property abutting a public sidewalk shall maintain the sidewalk in a safe and hazard-free condition. This maintenance includes removal of snow and ice accumulations as well as any debris that could cause injury to any person, animal, or vehicle.

Permit Required:

A permit is required to remove, reconstruct, or install a sidewalk. A permit will be issued by the city of Grinnell Building and Planning Department provided the person has agreed to comply with all ordinances and requirements for such work and any permit fees have been paid. (Permit fees are waived for replacement or repair of existing public sidewalks as well as installation of public sidewalks abutting existing homes where none previously existed.)
