City crews will begin flushing water mains on October 18th. Rusty water is likely to occur throughout the City. Flushing will start at 6 AM on the 18th and continue until finished (up to two weeks). The Water Treatment Plant will be the base of operations. City crews will flush hydrants in the southwest section of the City first, then in the northwest, southeast and ending in the northeast section of the City.
The purpose of the project is to remove accumulations of rust and sediment from the City’s water mains. Although flushing will occur in specific areas, red water problems may show up in all areas of the City. It is not advised to ingest colored water. If water is discolored, it is recommended to use an alternate drinking water source or flush line until clear.
Discolored water may impact washing laundry. If laundry does get stained domestic products are not usually effective in removing this stain. Do not dry stained laundry. A material, which is usually effective in removing stain, is available at the Water Treatment Plant or the City Offices. This material does not work well if stained laundry has already been dried. Persons doing laundry are encouraged to check the water before beginning the washing cycle.
Best practice to clear your water service, is to wait until flushing in your area has subsided then run cold water until clear.
