Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

IRS certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistants will be offering free tax preparation for low to moderate income taxpayers on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the months of February and March at Drake Community Library (930 Park Street). Electronic filing can be done for both federal and state returns. Refunds can be deposited directly into checking or savings accounts. 

Who Qualifies: Individuals and families whose incomes are $57,000 or less. Returns that may include any of the following cannot be done through this service: farm income, rental income, contract sale of property, business operating expenses exceeding $25,000, depreciation schedules, moving expenses, debt cancelation due to bankruptcy, or loss from a business.

Appointment Options: 15-minute drop off or one-hour face-to-face appointments are available. CDC guidelines will be followed. To schedule a drop off or face-to-face appointment call Poweshiek County ISU Extension and Outreach at 641-623-5188 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Volunteers will be available for appointments on the following dates and times:

  • Wed., February 9th 5 p.m. - 8 p.m
  • Sat., February 12th 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Wed, February 16th 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Sat., February 20th 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Wed, February 23rd 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Sat., February 26th 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Wed, March 2nd 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Sat., March 5th 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Wed, March 9th 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Sat., March 12th 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Wed, March 16th 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Sat., March 19th 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
