The Grinnell City Council is committed to improving emergency medical service (EMS) for the Grinnell area. The city is currently considering various options for a municipal EMS system. EMS is currently provided via a contract with Midwest Ambulance and this contract terminates on January 31, 2025. The City Council authorized staff to begin implementing portions of this new system such as fundraising for the ambulances and necessary equipment. The goal for this fundraising is $600,000 and due to the generosity of the community we are nearing that goal. Grinnell is partnering with neighboring EMS systems, Unity Point Health – Grinnell, Poweshiek County, the township trustees, the Grinnell Volunteer Fire Association and others to develop the best possible solution for 911 EMS for the community.
