The recent hail storm has brought an influx of companies going door-to-door to inspect and offer repair services. The city of Grinnell requires a peddler's permit for door-to-door sales or solicitations. The presence of a permit indicates the individual has had a background check through the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation with sign-off by the Chief of Police. The permit should be displayed prominently on the person and indicates the day or days it is valid. 

A permit is not required to hang flyers on doors without knocking on the door. A permit is also not required if the property owner or occupant has initiated the contact.
