[ARCHIVED] Inspection Deadline Nears

Throughout the year all homes and businesses connected to Grinnell's sanitary sewer system have been inspected for improperly connected sump pumps. Per city code sump pumps need to discharge to the storm water system or to a yard. The vast majority of Grinnell property owners have completed their inspection but approximately 400 have not yet done so.

Common misconceptions are if a home or business does not have a sump pump or a basement it doesn't need to be inspected. In fact, all properties outside of the central business district need the inspection even if there is no basement or sump pump.

Free inspection appointments are being scheduled in December. Currently openings are available on Dec. 3rd and Dec. 8th. Once those days are filled, appointments will be scheduled on the subsequent Mondays in December.

Properties not inspected or inspected and determined to have an improperly connected sump pump will incur a $20/month surcharge beginning Jan. 1st. The surcharge can be removed by having the property inspected and verified as not having a sump pump or having a properly connected sump pump.

To schedule your free inspection call the city office at 641-236-2600, their office hours are Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. More Information
