[ARCHIVED] Bike Trail Construction to Close Hwy 6

Jasper Construction will begin work on an underpass under Hwy 6 on Monday, May 11th. The underpass will be part of the bike trail to be constructed beginning west of the Aquatic Center, heading south under the highway, and following the east bank of the creek south to the backside of Brookside North. From there the trail will turn west crossing the creek and continuing west to pass behind existing buildings, then south to Fourth Avenue.

The highway will be closed near Iowa Valley Community College to allow workers to cut 100 feet of roadway out to create the tunnel which will be a large box culvert. Once dirt replacement and repaving is complete the highway will be reopened. This portion of the project is expected to take six to eight weeks. The entire trail project is expected to take four months.

Through traffic on Highway 6 will be routed on T38 west of Grinnell, Interstate 80, and Highway 146.
