Highway 146 (West Street) between 6th and 11th Avenues will close beginning Monday, Apr. 11th for street reconstruction. The project schedule (dependent on weather) has underground work south of 9th Avenue completed mid-June followed by underground work north of 9th Avenue completed in early August. During the early underground phase, traffic may only be blocked between 6th and 9th Avenues but once work starts on the north end the entire project length between 6th and 11th Avenues will be closed. Through traffic will be detoured around the city per the IA DOT official detour, local residents are encouraged to find alternate in-town routes to their destinations.
The remaining project schedule has paving of the entire street completed in early September, sidewalk and driveway approach paving completed in early October, and lighting and tree planting completed in early November.
Progress meetings will be held every other Tuesday starting April 12th at 10:00 a.m. The meetings will be held in the Council Chambers of the Community Center building at 927 4th Avenue. Meeting times may vary as construction progresses.
