Phase 5 of the Central Business District reconstruction continues with the closing of Broad Street between 5th and 6th Avenues scheduled for August 14th. In order to ensure the entire project is complete before winter, work on Broad Street will start before work on 5th Avenue is complete. When reconstruction of 5th Avenue between Park Street and the alley east of Broad Street concludes, the closure of 5th Avenue will transfer to the area between the alley and Broad Street. At all times during the project, the intersection of Broad and 5th will be open. The entire project should be completed by the end of November. 

Phase 5 started in 2016 with the reconstruction of Broad Street between 1st and 3rd Avenues, Park Street from 3rd to 5th, and 3rd Avenue between Broad and Park Streets. During the 2017 construction season, work will be completed on 5th Avenue from Broad to State Streets and on Broad Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. 

Like the previous four phases, the street surface will be removed, underground infrastructure replaced, street resurfaced, and sidewalks and lighting replaced or added. Phase 5 will complete the street upgrades planned for the central business district.
