County Treasurer's Press Release on Driver's License Issuance

October 16th, 2017

Poweshiek County Treasurer Sandy Ross announces changes to Driver's License issuance in Poweshiek County. With the implementation of the new 2018 Department of Transportation (DOT) software, Poweshiek County will be reduced to two issuance computers. Previously we were afforded four issuance computers, two at the Montezuma location and two at the Grinnell satellite location. This will no longer be the case.

In the best interest of efficiency, and to provide the ultimate customer service, we will not be able to reopen the Grinnell satellite office. It is unreasonable to try to operate that location with one computer and be able to provide the full service that all residents have come to expect and deserve.

This was not an easy decision, and follows an exhaustive period of discussions with DOT personnel. Many options were discussed and scenarios described but ultimately the outcome was always the same. Per DOT Officials the reduction in equipment is strictly based on issuance numbers and Poweshiek just falls under the required number to be allotted two more issuance computers.

The Montezuma Driver's license station, located in the lower level of the Courthouse is open Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Testing is offered daily from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. Drives are scheduled by appointment only.
