[ARCHIVED] Glass No Longer Accepted in Red Recycle Bins

City staff has announced effective immediately glass will no longer be accepted in red recycling bins or recycling dumpsters. The change is necessary due to a change in the way co-mingled recyclables are handled. Recycling companies no longer accept glass as it can break and cause injury. In addition, recycling glass involves crushing it into a powder which can also be dangerous if not handled properly.

Residents who wish to continue to recycle glass can bring it to the public service department at 1411 1st Avenue and place it into a specially marked container at the east end of the parking lot. The city has contracted with a company that is able to safely handle the glass recycling process.
