The intersection of East Street and 5th Avenue will close August 5th in preparation for new concrete to be poured at the intersection. Asphalt work from the railroad tracks through 4th Avenue is scheduled to begin the week of August 12th. Sidewalk work on the north side of 6th Avenue (Hwy 6) will also be started. Underground infrastructure work continues. Once the asphalt has cooled, that area should be reopened, hopefully during the week of August 19th. The overall project is still on track to be complete by early November.
The East Street project includes removal of the street surface, some underground infrastructure replacement, addition of handicap sidewalk ramps at intersections, curb replacement as needed, and repaving of the street.
This project is part of an overall project to reconstruct East Street from Garfield Avenue to 6th Avenue. The portion of the project from Garfield to 1st Avenue was completed in 2018.
