[ARCHIVED] Household Chemical Collection

Free household chemical collection for Poweshiek County residents will be held on Saturday, April 27th, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Public Services Department 1411 1st Avenue, Grinnell.

Acceptable Items:

  • Common household cleaners
  • Lawn & pool chemicals
  • Poisons
  • Antifreeze
  • Oil & lead-based paint
  • Stains & varnishes
  • Aerosols
  • Mercury & mercury containing items
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Sharps (needles) in rigid plastic jug

Unacceptable Items:

  • Latex paint
  • Medical wastes/drugs
  • Radioactive materials
  • Auto batteries
  • Alkaline batteries (A,AA, AAA, C, D)
  • Motor oil
  • Hazardous waste from businesses

Managing latex paint: open it up, add kitty litter, stir. When dry, place open can in your garbage.
