Building and Planning Information:
1. Permits and inspections are required on all construction including accessory buildings, portable sheds, and fences.
2. All stages of new construction or additions (site work, building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing) can be included in the original building permit application.
3. A full set of plans and specifications should accompany all applications.
4. Plans and specifications must be reviewed to meet minimum model code requirements adopted by the city of Grinnell.
5. All permits are based on the estimated cost of construction.
6. All permits should be obtained and all fees paid prior to the beginning of construction.

All of these applications are in PDF format. You must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your PC to view and print these applications.

Once you open the appropriate application, just print it out, complete the form and contact the Building & Planning Department at Grinnell's Community Center, 927 4th Avenue (641-236-2609) to obtain the current permit fees or to talk to a staff member.
