Grinnell residents will receive $25 off any rain barrel purchased from Upcycle Products, a company that manufactures rain barrels from re-cycled food grade barrels. The rebate is limited to 1 per household and 100 total for Grinnell residents.
Non-residents who would like to buy a barrel and Grinnell residents wishing to buy more than one barrel can purchase barrels at full price.
The barrels will be delivered to Grinnell for pick-up on Saturday, May 7th from 10 am to 12 pm in the parking lot of the Grinnell Hy-vee. Residents can also purchase a range of accessories for their rain barrels as well as tumbling composters for pick-up on May 7th with their barrels. |

Grinnell Water Treatment
Facility
The City's Water Treatment Plant staff
provides the day to day operation of the plant, 5 deep
wells and responsible for the maintenance of the distribution
system.
Water is derived from four Jordan aquifer wells. Well
#5 was drilled in 1920 to a depth of 2,220 feet. Well
#6 was drilled in 1926 to a depth of 2,500 feet. Well
#7 was drilled in 1955 to a depth of 2,500 feet. Well
#8 was drilled in 1974 to a depth of 2,510 feet. Well
#9 was drilled in 2002 to a depth of 2,378 feet.
Water treatment consists of forced draft aeration,
detention of water in a 1.0 million gallon baffled detention
tank (10-11 hrs.), softening through 4 Zeolite media
softeners, caustic soda for pH adjustment, polyphosphate
injection for corrosion control, and sodium hypochlorite
disinfection. The plant has the capacity to produce
3.2 million gallons of water per day. Pressure and storage
for the distribution system is provided by a 300,000
gallon elevated storage tower located south of the water
plant. The department has a standby diesel motors/generators
to operate wells and high service pumps.

Water Pollution Control Facility
The City's Water Pollution Control Plant
staff provides the day to day operation of the plant,
6 lift stations and is responsible for the maintenance
of the collection systems. Plant staff is also responsible for the maintenance of the storm sewer collection system.
The City of Grinnell Water Pollution Control Plant
consists of a rotary trickling filter plant with separate
sludge digestion. Treatment units include mechanical
bar screens, grit removal, two circular primary clarifiers,
a single rotary trickling filter, two circular final
clarifiers, a single anaerobic digester, a 0.75 million
gallon sludge storage tank, and a three cell storm water
equalization basin with a 16 million gallon capacity.
