City Elections

Regular city elections are held every two years in the odd-numbered years.

City Clerk Responsibilities

The city clerk provides election materials to residents wishing to run for mayor or city council. Election materials can be picked up at City Hall, 520 4th Ave, or obtained from the Iowa Secretary of State website.

Candidates file completed nomination papers at City Hall.

Candidate Information

Candidates running for wards 1, 2, 3, or 4 must have signatures* from petitioners, who are residents of the ward they are running in and qualified to register to vote in Iowa. Candidates for at-large seats or for the mayor seat must simply have signatures* from petitioners who are residents of the City of Grinnell and qualified to register to vote in Iowa. (*Check with the city clerk's office for number of signatures required.)

Voter registration forms can be found at City Hall, 520 4th Avenue or online at the Iowa Secretary of State website. Absentee Ballots also can be found at City Hall or online at the Iowa Secretary of State website.
