Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Poweshiek County VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is in its fifth year in offering “free tax preparation” services to individuals and families who are low to middle income. Electronic Filing by IRS certified volunteers is available for both federal and state returns. The service is available to individuals and families whose incomes are $57,000 or less. VITA helps working families take advantage of all tax credits for which they are eligible, including earned income tax credit, child tax credits and education credits. 

For the 2021 year, Poweshiek VITA is offering appointments for a 15 minute drop off or a face to face.  The appointments are on Saturday’s starting February 6 through March 20 and Wednesday’s starting February 10 through March 17th. 

To schedule an appointment, call the Poweshiek County Extension Office at 641.623.5188, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.  Your scheduled appointment will be located at Drake Community Library, 930 Park St., Grinnell, IA.  Poweshiek County VITA site will be using CDC guidelines.
