Planning

The Planning services of the Building and Planning Department help guide how land is used and developed in Grinnell. This includes zoning questions, development review, and long-range planning that supports the community's goals. 

Planning work focuses on creating a healthy, safe, and economically strong community now and in the future. Staff work with residents, elected officials, and community partners to review proposals and make land use recommendations based on adopted plans, codes, and policies.

Tax Abatement 

Tax abatement is a way the City of Grinnell encourages new construction and major improvements. If a property meets the eligibility requirements, it could be exempt from most property tax on the new value created by the project.
