The Union Pacific and Interstate railroads will both begin work on tracks through Grinnell beginning the week of June 16th. Second Avenue between Park and State Streets will be closed starting Monday, June 16th, for Union Pacific to replace the bridge over the street. Construction is expected to last around 2.5 months.
Iowa Interstate Railroad will also begin work on crossings the week of June 16th. Each intersection will be closed for about a week during construction. The crossings on East and Parks Streets will take place at the same time. At East Street, the intersection will be fully replaced with concrete piers and a new asphalt approach. At Park Street, the intersection will be fully replaced with new wood piers and a new asphalt approach. The crossings at Spring and Pearl Streets will also take place at the same time, with both intersections getting new asphalt approaches and the wood piers either getting repaired or replaced. The Reed Street crossing will complete the project, with a new asphalt approach and the wood piers getting reused or replaced.
