City crews will be flushing fire hydrants September 29th - October 3rd between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Work will begin in the southwest part of the city, then move to the northwest, southeast, and finish in the northeast.
Flushing fire hydrants helps to clear rust and sediment buildup from the city’s water mains. While hydrant flushing will be taking place in specific areas, discolored water may appear city wide.
If your water is discolored:
- Run cold water until it clears
- If it doesn’t clear within a few minutes, wait 30 minutes and try again
- Avoid using hot water until your cold water runs clear
Discolored water is not harmful but may stain laundry. People doing laundry are encouraged to check the water before beginning a washing cycle. Do not dry stained laundry. If laundry does get stained, regular stain removers are usually ineffective in removing the stains. There is a product available at the water treatment plant or City Hall that is usually effective in removing these stains.
As always, please contact the Water Department with questions or concerns.
