Crime Prevention Programs

Annual National Night Out

The department hosts the Annual National Night Out (NNO) program with the Grinnell Optimist Club. NNO is a police and community partnership that is designed to:
  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for and participation in anti-crime programs
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

Annual Shop with a Cop

We hold the Annual Shop with a Cop program with Wal-Mart and the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce as sponsors. Local citizens have helped coordinate community members to donate over $4,000 annually to this cause.

This program helps deserving children enjoy their holidays and gives officers and children an opportunity to spend time together, which fosters relationships that will last a long time.

Citizen's Police Academy

This eight-week program is designed primarily for the community to better understand how their Police Department functions. The attendees learn many facets of law enforcement duties, from basic patrol to firearms to criminal investigations.
